Word of the Week - Simile

A simile compares two unrelated objects. The words like, as, than or resembles are often used in these comparisons. Several examples are given below.
The pepper burned his throat like an inferno.
The pavement was hot as a frying pan.
We were hotter than boiling water.
The company resembles a well-oiled machine.
